A Firm Advocate For Florida Families

Family Law FAQ

Who determines how assets are divided in a divorce?

If the parties are unable to come to an agreement the court will decide how to divide the marital assets and liabilities.

How is child support determined in a divorce or child support case?

The gross monthly incomes of the parties are combined, then you look up the child support guidelines for the total monthly support obligation for the number of children based on that total combined monthly salary. Then each party’s income is divided into the total to figure out each party’s portion of the liability. If there are day care expenses or health insurance premiums, this will increase the total support obligation and the party paying the same will receive a credit for their portion of the amounts paid. The number of overnights a parent has will also affect the child support paid; the more overnights a parent has the less support will be owed.

What is joint custody?

There is no joint custody. There is shared or sole parental responsibility. Shared parental responsibility means that the parties are to co-parent and make joint decisions on behalf of the children

What type of family law do you provide?

I handle all family law matters. This includes divorce, child custody, paternity, child support, equitable distributions or division of assets and liabilities, contempt, and enforcement or modifications.

What are the grounds for divorce in Pennsylvania?

No clue. I only practice in Florida. Florida is a no-fault divorce state, which means it doesn’t matter why the marriage is over just that there are irreconcilable differences.

How does the court determine child custody?
